TRANSPARENCY & FINANCES
Your support deserves transparency
Equine Welfare NZ is a registered charitable trust (CC63890). You should be able to see how we work, how funds are used and what difference your support makes.
95% of everything we spent in FY25 went on the horses and the work of caring for them. That includes vet treatment, feed, grazing, farrier care, transport and the facilities they live in. The rest keeps the charity running, so we can keep doing this work.
Our purpose guides how we spend: caring for horses who need help now, and supporting owners so fewer horses need it later.
WHERE YOUR SUPPORT GOES
Every horse needs more than you'd think
Every horse that comes into our care needs feeding, treatment, hoof care and a safe place to recover. Vet care is our largest single cost. Your support covers all of it, for as long as each horse needs us.
Feed
Hay, hard feed, supplements and specialist nutrition.
Vet care
Assessments, treatment, medication, diagnostics and emergency care.
Farrier & dental
Regular hoof and dental care, plus remedial work where it's needed.
Transport
Getting horses safely into care, between foster homes and wherever they need to go.
Rehabilitation
Training, handling, specialist support and the time horses need to recover.
Property & facilities
Grazing, shelter and fencing that keep horses in our care safe.
Emergency cases
Urgent treatment for situations that can't wait.
Ongoing care
Supporting horses in permanent foster care and those with lifelong needs.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE WORK
Powered by people who give their time
EWNZ is run by trustees, volunteers, foster carers, professionals and community members who give their time and skills.
We don't currently have any paid staff.
That's a big part of why so little of what we spend goes on running the charity. Paid roles may be needed in future so we can help more horses. If that happens, you'll see the cost in our financial reporting.
OUR REPORTING
See the numbers for yourself
As a registered charitable trust, we file an annual performance report with Charities Services. Anyone can read it on the Charities Register.
If you want to know, ask us
We want you to feel confident about where your money goes. If you have a question about our finances, fundraising or how donations are used, just ask.
Reports & Records.
Below you can view the annual report for Rodney Animal Rescue for the 2025–2026 financial year.
Equine Welfare New Zealand (EWNZ) is a newly registered charity taking over the rescue and welfare work previously carried out by Rodney Animal Rescue.
As EWNZ is a new entity, our first annual report will be published following the completion of our first financial year. In the meantime, we have made Rodney Animal Rescue's most recent annual report available to provide transparency into the work, finances and impact of the organisation that preceded us.
GIVE WITH CONFIDENCE
You know where
the money goes
More than 90% of what we spend goes on the horses and their care.
A regular gift, even $5 a week, lets us plan that care ahead.
