Barley came into our care after one of our more unusual rescue calls.

Just after New Year, we were contacted about a small group of horses loose on aviation land near Auckland Airport. With a young foal at foot and the horses unable to be safely contained, a number of agencies and organisations had been involved in trying to secure them.

Eventually, our team headed down to see if we could help.

Using some temporary fencing panels we found nearby, and with a good dose of patience and luck, we managed to safely contain the horses and load them onto our float.

Barley later moved into foster care, where he has remained and absolutely thrived. These days his life looks very different from the day we met him — he enjoys spending time with his equine friends and even gets to have some fun learning liberty activities.
