Arlo first crossed our path during the Covid years, when a severe hoof abscess left his owner needing some extra help. After a local vet suggested they contact us, Arlo temporarily came into our care so we could help treat and rehabilitate him before he returned home.

Some time later, financial circumstances meant his owner could no longer continue caring for him, and Arlo was surrendered permanently into our care.

When he arrived back with us, Arlo was in poor condition and had also suffered significant trauma to his head. X-rays confirmed an injury consistent with blunt-force trauma.

Because of the lasting effects of that injury, Arlo will never be ridden. Instead, he has a permanent place within Equine Welfare NZ as a much-loved paddock companion, where his only job is to enjoy life and be a friend to the horses around him.

He is currently in foster care with an amazing foster family, living his best paddockmate life!
